Whispers from the Street
These rumors have been circulating in the back rooms and powder parlors of Chicago. None have been confirmed. All should be considered.
Overheard at The Grand Gatsby bar
Haddie Drinx has been furious ever since Kara Low stole the lounge singer spot from her at Hal's speakeasy. She's been telling anyone who'll listen that Kara didn't earn it — she bought it.
Anonymous tip, North Side
Beanie O'Dannon's truce with Hal Sapone is a front. Word on the street is that Beanie's been quietly moving product through Hal's territory without cutting him in. Hal knows. He's just waiting for the right moment.
Spotted by a cab driver, Michigan Avenue
Handsome Sam McWarthy and Mona Crawfish were seen together in a parked automobile for over an hour on Tuesday night. Sam works for Beanie. Mona is Beanie's girl. Nobody's saying anything — but everybody's thinking it.
Whispered by a hat-check girl at The Two Aces
Jazzy Fringe has been openly campaigning for Kara Low's job at The Grand Gatsby. She's been cozying up to Hal Sapone's associates for weeks. Some say she's willing to do more than sing to get what she wants.
Reported by a bootlegger's courier
Hal Sapone is growing dangerously jealous of Harry Looper's friendship with Zetta Zarbo. He's been heard saying that Harry's days of hanging around Zetta are numbered. Harry's been warned. He hasn't listened.
Intercepted telegram, sender unknown
"The package changes hands at the party. Make sure our friend doesn't interfere. You know what to do."
Wyleen Black's column — unpublished draft
"A prominent Chicago figure is about to be exposed. My source is impeccable. My editor says it's too dangerous to print. I'm printing it anyway. Watch this space."
Overheard backstage at The Grand Gatsby
Fay Stingray has been lurking around both mob outfits for months, claiming she's researching a novel. But she's been asking very specific questions — the kind a novelist doesn't need to know.
Reported by a dockworker, South Side
Tommy 'Four Guns' Beagle was seen near the docks at odd hours last week. He was carrying something heavy and was alone. He started rhyming to himself on the walk back. Nobody followed him.
Overheard at a North Side barber shop
Chuck Limberger — Mona Crawfish's brother — has been borrowing money from Beanie O'Dannon's outfit to fund his Trans-Atlantic flight. He's behind on repayments. Beanie's patience has limits.

What We Know
The following items have been gathered, catalogued, and are considered material to the investigation. Cross-reference with what you learn on the night.
A Monogrammed Handkerchief
Found near the scene. Silk, expensive. The initials are partially obscured — three letters visible. It belongs to someone in this room tonight.
A Torn Note
Recovered from a waste bin at The Grand Gatsby. Handwritten: "Meet me before the others arrive. Come alone. Tell no one — especially not Hal." The signature has been torn away.
An Empty Vial
Small glass, no label. Traces of an unknown substance inside. The cork was replaced carefully — someone wanted it to look untouched. A chemist would know what it held.
A Matchbook
From The Two Aces — Beanie O'Dannon's club. Found inside The Grand Gatsby. The matches are unused. A time is written on the inside cover: 11:45. Someone from the north side was here before the party started.
A Ledger Page
A single torn page from what appears to be a financial ledger. Several entries are circled in red ink. The name at the top of the column has been scratched out — but the amounts are substantial.
A Newspaper Clipping
From Wyleen Black's column, dated three weeks ago. A paragraph has been circled in pencil: "Sources close to the South Side operation confirm a significant internal dispute over territory — one that could turn violent before year's end." Someone kept this for a reason.
